Going fishing

Gin n I finally decided to buy a fishing rod after 4 years of talk about how much fun it would be to go fishing. Late much?

Went down to Tackle Box over in Subang Jaya and got us all the thing’s we’d need to catch us some fishies -> A 6′ casting rod with a cork handle & graphite rod. A reel. Multiple hooks for dough balls. Single size 8 hooks. An 8 pound nylon line. A pack of swivels. A floater and 2 sinkers. All for Rm180. All of these items are geared towards fishing in ponds / streams and fish that are hopefully lesser than 4kg.

The great guy at the shop even helped us get started by spindling in the fishing line into the reel and then knotting a swivel into the main line. Even let me video him tying a knot – awesome idea in hindsight.

Our first fishing adventure was at a pond behind a Shell station in KJ (the one opposite Giant) but that resulted in a skeeter bites and no fish. There were however quite a few funny moments since I hadn’t gone fishing before – it’s no fun hooking stinky squid to the end of the line!

The experience was fun overall so we’re now on the hunt for great ponds to fish at.
Will post up pictures of the first catfish we catch 🙂

Singapore barcamp #4 / StartupDay 2009

Since barcamp#4 is in the region, I’m planning to attend it on the Sat – Nov 21, 2009. Check it out here : http://www.barcamp.org/BarCampSingapore4

It’s for the techy inclined… and I’m inclined to sway that way.

Found out about StartupDay 2009 over a tweet by Danielle Morill and I found it quite interesting. Being in South East Asia, I tend to miss most of the action happening over in San Fran, which is why I was quite happy to find that there are now 5 hours worth of videos posted up of all the talks that happened that day.

Here’s the link to the vids: http://www.seattle20.com/tv/

Also, short descriptions on what I’d imagine are the more popular ones :

Pakistan Aug ’09

Thought I’d share a bit about my 5 day stay in Pakistan when I went to attend a close friend’s wedding.

The minute I got off the plane at Karachi airport, I could feel the slight warmth in the air and I thought to myself “one more beautiful country to explore”.

I was picked up by the friend’s brother and dad and taken over to the family house over in Clifton – thank goodness cos I would have been quite lost. Sumi, the bride was waiting for me at home – peaking out of the balcony waving, yelling and giggling at the same time. Two girl friends meeting up after 4 years.

Surprisingly, most of my holiday was spent indoors – had I been asked to do this in Sri Lanka I would have started sulking within a couple of hours. Most of my days there involved waking up late, grabbing a quick breakfast, accompanying Sumaira to the beautician’s, entertaining family and chatting away till the wee hours of the night.

The days spent there was truly colorful, not because of the places I saw or the things I did – but because of the friends I spent it with. Not only did I meet Sumair, but I also caught up with my 2 holiday buds and 3 other school mates – these I hadn’t met in 6 to 7 years. I’m quite Paki on the inside. There was a constant exchange of stories about the people we had become close friends with over the last few years and about things we enjoyed.

The wedding went quite well. Photos were taken, food was had and rituals took place in time.

Here’s a pics from the outdoor wedding:

Considering this post might get way too long and the fact that it’s 2am and I’m very drowsy, here’s a word-cloud of what I would have written about!
